Kindergarten News - Week of February 9th

We have had 99 days of school!

Announcements/Reminders:

  • NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 16h for Presidents Day. Enjoy the AgFair!!
  • 100th Day of School is on Tuesday, February 17th.  Please send 100 small items (for example: paper clips, rubber bands, rice, beans, etc...surprise me!). Help your child count out the 100 items and place them in a Ziploc bag (if you want to get really creative, items can be glued to paper or cardboard...or?) - whatever you can manage will be great!
  • NEXT SHOW and TELL will be on Monday, February 23rd: Brooklyn and Isaiah. Please bring one item from home to show to the class.
  • FOLDERS: Please check these and remove all papers.
  • Bloomz: Please check the Bloomz App for reminders and the latest photos - in the “February 2026” album.
  •    Practice at home:

    • Spelling Words
    • Trick (Sight) Words: are, and, to
    • Math “How Many Sides? How many corners?”

A Peek At our Week:

Star Student: Talia was our Star Student. She currently 5 years old, but will be
celebrating her 6th birthday on February 24th! Her favorite color is pink and her favorite foods are pate and pizza. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, modeling, traveling and playing. Her favorite sport is soccer. When Talia grows up she would like to be a doctor, chef, and/or realtor. Go for it!
Show and Tell: This week is was Fiona and Nicholas' turn to show something special to the class. Fiona was very clever and made her "one" item, a
collection! A collection of teddy bears, to be exact. Each one had a little backstory and Fiona told each story well and was then prepared to answer questions. Nicholas brought a remote control car, gifted to him by friends of his dad. Though Nicholas was shy about talking about his car, but was happy to demonstrate how it worked. Of course everyone was excited to watch it go!

MATH: Constructing and Drawing Shapes.  After our deep dive into 2D (flat) last week, we spent this week using those shapes in four new Work Places! The first one Shapes & Spinners Graphing, gives students the opportunity to trace and draw shapes. The second, Pattern Block Designs, shows students how to make designs using Pattern Blocks. Spin & Count Shapes, our third new Work Place again has students tracing shapes and then counting how many they got. And finally, Hungry Caterpillars is a fun Work Place (game) that uses three different pattern block shapes to complete the caterpillar. Next we’ll have a chance to really become familiar with all of the Work Places. The 100th Day of School is just 1 school day away!

Sunny the Bus: The bus is used by JS Therapies as a mobile occupational therapy bus. Everyone had a turn to spend some time exploring on the bus and had a great time. They were climbing, swinging, balancing and so much more. Ms. Julie Summer explained to the class that all the activities on the bus help make our bodies stronger and can teach certain skills, while having fun.

Celebrating Valentine's Day: There was so much excitement in the air this week,
all because of Valentine's Day. On Friday, aside from making special cards for loved ones, everyone also had a chance to exchange Valentine's. Everyone received quite an overwhelming amount of goodies. It was sweet to see each student hand a Valentine's bag to a classmate - everyone was so polite and so patient! Thank you to Talia's mom for bringing cupcakes for our celebration. Also thank you everyone for showering Ms. Cerni and Mr. Daniel with so much love!
